This website has been designed with both patients and clinicians in mind. The central ethos is to provide the right care for the right woman in the right place.
Most common gynaecological conditions can be successfully managed, at least initially, by GPs, especially where there is good communication with the local hospital based services.
We are examining all the common conditions which patients and clinicians alike felt had the largest impact on women's lives. As a result we are developing evidence based guidelines, care pathways and tailored patient information leaflets for these conditions. The first group of pathways are available and more will follow.
As evidence is always changing, the content of this site will attempt to stay in step with these and alter practice accordingly. In addition, we are keen to change the content (and layout) of the site after consideration of suggestions from users.
This site has been developed through a gynaecological clinical reference group. This is a joint group involving Gynaecology Consultants from Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust and the three local Primary Care Trusts: Brighton and Hove City PCT, Mid-Sussex PCT and Sussex Downs and Weald PCT. In addition we have had collaboration from local family planning services and the British Pregnancy Advisory Board.
